Book 50
Drawing is the means of restructuring space for the creation of an expressive composition. It goes beyond recording physical space; it demonstrated the ability of the mind to selectively compose aesthetic communication. The drawn line is the most direct way I can penetrate space, subconsciously select relationships, and form the conception of new worlds. It is the foundation of my process.

An observational drawing will contain many spatial structures. This is a result of recording information as I take it in, small bits at a time. It is impossible to conceive the nature of the whole without piecing together smaller elements. During the process of drawing, some spatial clusters take on more consideration then others; as a result they are recorded in different proportions. This leads to the dismantling of real space, making way for the formation of new structures.

Drawing books have been my one true constant study over the past ten years. Book fifty was completed during the time when the conceptual level of the paintings was really coming to fruition. As drawing is the root of the process I thought it may be of interest to share the guts of the work. Please stay tuned for future books.
